personality:
although callum appears to possess a suspiciously dark and melancholic aura, he is--to a certain degree--a kind and gentle individual. tall and usually dressed in black, he is almost never seen alone; silent and usually standing by his master's side. he isn't one to approach others, nor is he the social type, though he will respond if spoken to directly.
callum boasts a strikingly captivating appearance, and tends to garner the attention of the common passerby, but because of his foreboding demeanor, most prefer to keep their distance out of uncertainty, and admire from afar.
despite his passive behavior, callum isn't one to be misconstrued. he can be kind and helpful, yes, but it is in his nature to defy, harm and behave in an unintentionally cold and selfish manner. thankfully (?), because of his upbringing and the methods in which he was disciplined, this darker side of his haš so far, never resurfaced.

a demonic entity "born" amongst the 'children of barathrum'—forged from red magic and black flame—came gage; a "product" that was the culmination of thousands of years of forbidden spells and incantations, supposedly locked away for all of eternity.
a violent, rebellious creature--inherently defiant and proud--gage was of an arcane breed of demon. both highly sought after for his rarity, and feared for what unknown potential lie hidden within him. created for the sole purpose of servitude; a tempter--or greater-servitor--the boy (at the time) was to be conditioned, disciplined and put under strict control until he would yield to his master's call. this "refinement" would go on for some time...
the boy—void of heart and soul—would never know mercy, compassion, or even the meaning thereof. his maniacal behavior alone would be cause to warrant the use for extreme cruelties towards him; some more ruthless than others. and because of his constant disobedience, these sentences of abuse would rarely cease. coincidentally, his body's ability to heal almost instantaneously would also incur various methods of sadistic disciplinary tactics. pain was almost always a constant; and he knew pain all too well...
to scream was to entice, to confirm; and to tremble was to submit.
servitors (specifically filii tenebrarum*) were used as a means to gain mass amounts of knowledge from the different realms outside of barathum. those who would fail to return were either hunted down and killed, or—if filii tenebrarum—pursued , seized and punished profusely, obviously never to repeat their mistake a second time.
gage was favored because he was taught to be vehemently obedient and submissive; he would carry out his tasks in accordance to the wish of his masters, and would never think to question their authority on the subject matter. doing this had previously caused him to have his wings forcibly taken away. and so he had learned the hard way that to speak without permission or raise his voice, was to be punished; punish--the word itself frightened him.
he would never speak unless spoken to; he would always lower his gaze away from any and all superiors. if he were to speak, it would be in a lowered tone, most notably because of the strain in his voice; the result of vocal damage caused by prolonged screaming...
appointed his first task, gage was given an alias; a name with which he could use as a means of protection; a mask to be used at all times during his departures to the many different realms. callum was chosen simply because of it's meaning.
a demon's name is used as a means of control, and if given to another, it is simply as though ownership is being transferred to that other individual—especially if the person in question is favored more than the previous master. this very incident would take place later on in gage's lifetime, and with his complete and utter willingness to do so.
he would eventually be summoned and called to serve a lesser being—a female of seemingly human origin—and form a contract signed in blood. to his surprise, however, she would become a very precious and dear companion; one that he would—without question--give his own life to protect.
"you saved me... when no one thought i was worth saving."
— gage
despite all of this, gage is still a demon; one should always be wary around a demon.
"i want them all to turn black... every last one of them..."

the children of barathum
(pron. bara-thoom)
these creatures, created from a specific class of magic, are known to possess a special type of distinctive intelligence.
although the majority of them lack any obvious physical uniqueness, there are—though extremely rare—a select few who display clear signs of remarkable intellect, and an almost startling sense of self; a trait in which the average lesser-demon does not possess. these children are known as "filii tenebrarum", or children of darkness, and are usually taken to the black forests of barathum, an area dominated by the abyssal lakes of acheron.
the rose garden
a wistful plane--lost in time and forever unchanged--lies a field of ruby red roses; their shades deep as night. and atop a hill sits a lonesome tree, it's branches void of any life.
faintly veiled in starlight, yet hidden beneath black mist. and for every rose plucked, does another fill its place--to this mysterious sanctuary does gage hold an unknown affinity. never does a sun rise, and eternal does a harvest moon sit frozen in the sky. no one knows where this strange dimension comes from; not even gage himself. though curiously enough, it holds an eerie nostalgia whenever he returns to it. every visit feels as though it's his first, and yet...

favorite color: does not associate with colors (although blue appeals...)
quirk: with his left hand, gage often repeatedly taps his thumb against his index finger; kind of like a coping mechanism.
interesting physical features: gage has pointed ears and a pair of black horns that sit on the sides of his head (usually hides them using magic). when he opens his mouth, you will get a clear view of his large fangs. (not vampire)
there are two large scars that appear adjacent to each other on his back, hinting the fact that--for a time--there were wings.
known behaviors: gage constantly fails to sleep. in his human form he hasn't learned that this new body of his needs to rest, and so he will go days without sleeping before literally collapsing; a result of insomnia. he does not know how to go to sleep on his own.
talents: gage has a subconsciously acute sense of hearing. because of this, he has this strange ability to recreate emotion through certain musical instruments; most notably cello or piano...
he doesn't feel them personally, nor does he understand them--but rather--he can "hear" and therefore mimic them through sound.
(disclaimer: he does feel them but only after the fact-- because while he is in the moment of feeling these certain emotions, it simply confuses him and he has to analyze them before understand what they are and what they mean. <:3)
additionally:
1. takes a majority of things literally, to the point where you would need to explain to him in detail what a certain thing means.
2. the only person he will accept physical contact from is helicia.
3. gage is wise and knows many things, but at the same time he knows nothing.
4. experiences certain emotions, but fails to understand them or explain them verbally.
5. cannot read or write any type of human language, but can fluently speak it and understand it; this is because for some reason, any written language appears distorted and illegible; like bleeding ink. this hindrance is caused by a binding spell, placed on him by one of his authoritarian-like masters; a draconian.
